Memorial Day Weekend

I know memorial day weekend was a while ago, but I had so much fun and I haven't posted pictures in a while.

Me, Jeff, my parents, and my cutest sister Meggie spent Friday night and Saturday morning up at the family's cabin by Fairview. We still had to use the snowcat to get to the cabin because there is still too much snow to drive in. Seriously. It was snowing when we got there.

Saturday we left to go to Spring City, a small town in Sanpete County with less than 1,000 residents where a lot of artists live. Every weekend before Memorial Day the town has art auctions and festivities, and mom actually ended up with two paintings from the auction. My favorite part was the antique sale they had. I came across an old reader from the 1800's, it was like a lesson book for 4th graders. It was fascinating flipping through this old book and realizing just how far our understanding of science has come. At one part of the book it explained that bones are made from animal parts, which give them life, and earthy parts, which give them strength (?!).

After we'd spent time looking at the art and old restored buildings, we changed into our bike gear and road our bikes to Ephraim, about ten miles away. Jeff and I got mountain bikes last summer, so we were excited to get them out and ride again. On our way to Ephraim we had to take a dirt road which passed by beautiful rural fields that were tucked away from cars and noise and people. Riding on that road I understood why someone would want to live in a small town away from other people. That road was worth the whole trip.

Once we got to Ephraim and mom picked us up (she had to back track to Spring City because she was on a road bike) we soon realized the tire had gone flat on the suburban, so dad and Jeff had to fix that up before we headed back home. I was rather impressed with how fast they fixed it.

And that last picture is quite ugly of me, but I had show off my little sister's blue eyes and stunning beauty :)

Cold Turkey

I deactivated my facebook account. I figured I've had plenty of practice procrastinating and not enough practice with molarity, electrochemistry, Hooke's Law and all the other stuff I should know in 12 days time (gulp!).

Remove yourself from the temptation, right? Hopefully this works and I quit procrastinating...

Down to 18 days...

Most countdowns I see this time of year have to do with brides thinking about flowers and lace and fiances. As those countdowns get smaller the soon to be bride only gets happier.

Too bad my countdown can't be like a wedding countdown. When I get to single digits I might not be as thrilled as I was a week before my wedding.

However, I wonder who will have experienced the most anxiety as their countdown ends. Me in 18 days or Jeff almost two years ago on July 17th? ;)

Growing Pains

So it's been a while. Hopefully I can post a little more consistently now that summer is starting. (Don't let the snow fool you, it really is almost May). I'm currently taking a little break from studying and thought it would be nice to update the blog.

This will be my first spring not taking any classes, but I'm secretly glad I have to study for the MCAT because it gets me to campus. I fail at studying at home with Jeff, and the spring term is the prettiest time at BYU so it only makes sense to come visit. The pretty trees with their pink and white blossoms reminds me that change can be a wonderful thing.

Growing up I could picture myself moving out of the house, studying at the library, dancing through school, and even finding someone I especially liked and putting a ring on my finger. Those were just a continuation of things I'd already been doing. It wasn't hard to realize and imagine those happening. And I've always dreamed of doing something big with my life, but I never pictured myself taking the MCAT or asking professors for letters of recommendation or buying plane tickets to interview (hopefully!) at potential medical schools.

It's exciting to be on the brink of something new. I remember before the last Harry Potter book came out I was kind of sad because the mystery would be over and I couldn't wonder anymore. How wonderful that life will never run out of mysteries. Who knows what my life will be like in 5 years, but I bet I see some pink and white blossoms along the way.

Tiny Wings

The iphone is amazing. Jeff has had one since I met him and I've always been impressed by how many things it can do. However, I've never been that intrigued by the games on the iphone. There are plenty of more interesting distractions one can find. The games are just a waste of time.

Then I played Tiny Wings.

Granted it's still a waste of time, but it's the most entertaining and surprisingly addictive waste of time I've found. What's amazing is that the entire game simply consists of flying a little bird with tiny wings across some hills.

Jeff finally beat my high score and broke the 100,000 point barrier. However I'm still the one with the longest fever of 27 seconds. Seriously, if you have the iphone spend the dollar and buy the game, what do you have to lose?!

(Except for time spent studying or cleaning or working or making dinner or sleeping...)

Procrastinating...again

So I'm not sure what to post about. Mostly I just feel guilty I haven't posted anything since December. Not that these couple months haven't been busy, but blogging ends up falling way down on my to-do list when things get crazy.

I know I need to thank Mandy for her post about our conversation we had some weeks ago. It's been wonderful to read all the insight from her followers as they comment on the role women have to find balance in their lives. It's comforting to read the thoughts of other women who have the same concerns and issues I've been dealing with.

But I guess I should get back to studying...darn MCAT ;)

I know I shouldn't post without a picture or video or something, so I will leave you with this dance I recently discovered choreographed by Jiri Kylian, his stuff is breathtaking, so are the dancers of Nederlands Dance Theatre. These pictures are of several dances from his Black and White Ballets.
